They have found something pretty special happens in a relationship once a couple has been together for 35 years.  If that 35 year mark is far away, why not try to make that special thing happen now?  That’s this week’s Tune Up Tuesday – a little nugget you can use to tune up your relationship.

At or around the 35 year mark, couples grow more benevolent toward each other.  Their differences are more likely to be a source of humor as opposed to conflict.  This supports other research that finds as we get older, in general… we become more focused on the positives in our life.  So, what if instead of just letting that happen over time… what if you did that intentionally now?

We do this… my partner, Andy is very different from me.  Example, I am a purger.  I constantly want to get rid of stuff.  He’s not a hoarder, but we joke about him being one.  He has no issue bringing more things into the home.  And now, if there’s ever anything in the house we can’t find, he’ll joke that I probably threw it out or gave it away.  We see the positive in each other and even let our differences serve as a source of humor.  It’s so much easier and more fun than defensiveness or criticism.
