Mattel is facing backlash after adding a URL to the back of its Elphaba and Glinda dolls that leads to a porn site instead of the company’s website.
An Indiana man, Dan Goodwin, bought a “Wicked” movie-themed doll for a relative but was surprised by what he found on the back of the box. Curious, he visited the website listed, expecting content related to the upcoming film starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Instead, the link led to an adult site. Goodwin initially checked the box, hoping to explore advertising options on the manufacturer’s website.
The dolls are based on characters from the Broadway musical “Wicked.” The misprint was primarily on dolls sold in the U.S., and Mattel is taking action to correct the error.
The mistake was brought to light by social media users.
“We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this,” Mattel said.
Parents are advised to discard the packaging or obscure the link to avoid any awkward situations with their children. Source: tmz.com
