Procrastination is a major obstacle for some, often stemming from confusion about what it actually is.

People tend to mistake the urge to procrastinate for the act of procrastinating. When facing anxiety about completing a task, the mind suggests distractions (like social media) as a way to escape discomfort. However, self-judgment in response to this urge only adds more negative emotions, making actual procrastination more likely.

Instead, a more effective approach is self-compassion—acknowledging that anxiety and the urge to procrastinate are normal. By validating these feelings rather than fighting them, creators can reduce emotional resistance and increase their chances of staying focused. The key to overcoming procrastination is recognizing the space between the urge and action, using it to cultivate discipline through kindness rather than self-criticism.
