Josh Gad has confirmed that he is working on a sequel to the Mel Brooks comedy, Spaceballs. The original film, released in 1987, parodied the Star Wars franchise and other sci-fi properties. Gad is collaborating with Amazon MGM Studios on the project, with Mel Brooks producing.

Starring Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis, and Daphne Zuniga, the original Spaceballs takes place in a distant galaxy and follows renegade space pilot Lone Starr and his half-man, half-dog partner, Barf as they attempt to rescue Princess Vespa, who has been kidnapped by the evil Dark Helmet.

Details about the sequel, including the cast and plot, are currently under wrap, but Gad says he has Brooks blessing on the direction he is taking with the sequel 37 years in the making.
