Court: Boneless Wings CAN Contain Bones?!

Boneless wings can already be a tad controversial, with some saying they aren’t really wings, but more glorified chicken nuggets. Now add this to their dubious status – The Ohio Supreme Court ruled that consumers cannot expect boneless chicken wings to be completely free of bones!

The court rejecting a lawsuit by a man who suffered serious medical complications after choking on a bone at a restaurant. The court stated that “boneless wings” refers to a cooking style, not a guarantee of bone-free meat. The majority opinion emphasized that it is common knowledge that chickens have bones and diners should be aware of this. The dissenting justices argued that consumers reasonably expect boneless chicken products to be bone-free and that a jury should have been allowed to decide if the restaurant was negligent. The lawsuit against the restaurant, supplier, and farm was ultimately dismissed by the court.
