Listen Live

It’s that time of year where members of the entertainment industry get together, get all dressed up and give themselves awards.  I’ve just never been much of an Awards Show person … if you are, that’s cool.

One thing I can appreciate about an awards show is a good acceptance speech – primarily the “Thank You’s.”

We often say “thank you” as a reflex, rather than a genuine expression of appreciation.  Don’t get me wrong – saying “thanks” – no matter the reason – is always better than not saying thanks.

I do like the idea that in one of biggest moments of a person’s life – like getting an award, someone takes the opportunity to thank others.  Expressing gratitude can be extremely powerful.  Think of how you feel when some genuinely thanks you … you feel …

Recognized …

It’s a boost to your self-esteem …

And generally, it reinforces our desire to do more of what we were thanked for in the first place …

We have the power to do that for others.

So our challenge today is to not wait to get all dressed up, walk a red carpet and receive some trophy to tell someone how we appreciate them and to genuinely express thanks to them.
