Actor Eric Dane opened up about his ALS diagnosis to Diane Sawyer in a “Good Morning America” interview, revealing that he is down to just one functioning arm and fears losing his legs next.

“I have one functioning arm. … My left side is functioning. My right side has completely stopped working,” he revealed. “[My left arm] is going. I feel like maybe a couple, a few more months, and I won’t have my left. … I’m worried about my legs.”

The 52-year-old shared his struggles with the disease, recalling a scary snorkeling incident with his daughter.

“When I jumped into the ocean that day and realized I couldn’t swim, generate enough power to get myself back to the boat I thought, ‘Oh god,’ and then I realized in that moment I’m not safe in the water anymore,” Dane told Sawyer, noting one of his daughters had to assist him back to the boat.

The former “Grey’s Anatomy” star expressed anger over the diagnosis, especially after losing his father to suicide at a young age. Despite the challenges, he credits his wife as his biggest support and remains hopeful for the future.

Before Dane publicly announced his condition, his estranged wife, Rebecca Gayheart, called off their divorce. Dane and Gayheart share two children, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13.

In 2018, Gayheart filed for divorce from Dane, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split. In March, she requested to dismiss her divorce from Dane.
