American University is offering a course called “Swiftonomics: The Economics of Taylor Swift” to teach students about economics through the lens of the artist’s impact on the market.

The course, designed by students Mackenzie Shultz and Kara Reynolds, has garnered immense interest and is set to be offered again in the spring. The class explores economic concepts using examples from Swift’s Eras Tour, such as externalities, economic spillovers, and the Ticketmaster scandal.

On the first day of the class, Economics Department Chair Kara Reynolds sent students home with kits to make friendship bracelets — except unlike the ones from “The Eras Tour” that were modeled off Swift’s memorable songs, these spelled out economic concepts like “demand” and “inflation” instead.
