Was the Thunder Parade a Slam Dunk… or an Airball?
Oklahoma City is still buzzing from the Thunder’s NBA championship win, and to celebrate, the city threw a parade they claimed drew 500,000 people. That’s half a million fans, supposedly packing the streets in a historic display of team spirit. The mayor even called it “the biggest event in Oklahoma City history.”
But… did anyone check the replay?
Aerial footage has since made its way around social media—and let’s just say the crowd looked a lot more like a Tuesday at the DMV than Times Square on New Year’s Eve. Wide open streets, scattered groups, and plenty of space for a full-court press of disappointment.
Sure, it was hot. Sure, it was a weekday. But if you’re going to brag about numbers, be ready for the internet to fact-check you from 10,000 feet.
Look, it’s still an incredible moment for Thunder fans and the city. Just maybe… don’t inflate the crowd size like it’s an NBA stat sheet from the ‘90s.
