Butler Alum Matt Vogt Lives Out Dream By Playing In 2025 U.S. Open

Matt Vogt, a former Butler University golfer, is living out a lifelong dream as he tees off this week in the 2025 U.S. Open.

The event holds deep personal meaning for Vogt, who returns to Oakmont Country Club, where he spent his youth as a caddie, to compete on one of golf’s biggest stages.

Qualifying for the U.S. Open is the culmination of both a unique and heartfelt journey for Vogt.

After walking away from the Butler golf team to focus on academics, he pursued a career in dentistry, founding his own practice in McCordsville, Indiana.

Despite stepping away from golf at a competitive level, he rediscovered his passion for the sport years later.

This drive led him to excel in the grueling qualifying rounds, where he secured his spot by finishing first at the final stage in Walla Walla, Washington.

For Vogt, the opportunity comes with bittersweet emotions.

His appearance at the U.S. Open coincides with Father’s Day weekend, a poignant reminder of his father, Jim, who passed away from colon cancer earlier this year.

Vogt credits his father’s unyielding support for fostering his love of golf, making this moment all the more special.

“I know he’d be so pumped to see me at Oakmont,” Vogt said, reflecting on the connection he shares with his father through the game.

Set against the backdrop of familiar terrain, Vogt is facing the challenge of navigating Oakmont in its notorious U.S. Open conditions.

While he balances the pressures of competing at this level, Vogt is staying grounded, viewing the event as an opportunity to inspire others.

“It’s never too late to chase a dream,” he said in a recent interview. “No matter what life throws at you, you can always pursue what’s important.”

Whether or not Vogt advances far in the tournament, his story resonates beyond the leaderboard.

It’s a testament to resilience, family, and the pursuit of passion, inspiring fans both on and off the course.

For Matt Vogt, this week is about more than golf; it’s a celebration of a life well-lived and the dreams that continue to drive him forward.
