Taylor Swift fans have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of Reputation (Taylor’s Version), and the 2025 American Music Awards seemed like the perfect opportunity for it.

But as the AMAs came and went on May 26 without a single mention of the re-recording, fans were left with more questions than answers.

Here’s what to know about what didn’t happen—and why.

Why Fans Thought Reputation (TV) Would Drop at the 2025 AMAs

The theory that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) would be announced at the 2025 AMAs wasn’t random—it was built on layers of detailed fan analysis:

  • Date Significance: The show aired on May 26—two 13s added together (Taylor’s favorite number).
  • Nomination Momentum: Swift was up for six major awards, including Artist of the Year.
  • Website Clues: Taylor’s online merch store changed layout—categories like “Apparel,” “Music,” “Accessories,” and “Sale” led fans to notice the acronym “AMAs.”
  • Discounts & Inventory Drops: Reputation-era merchandise was slashed in price (some by 26%) and mysteriously limited days before the show.

Despite the compelling connections, Swift didn’t even attend the ceremony.

Reputation-Themed Clues Leading Up to the AMAs

Fans had been on high alert for months:

  • “Look What You Made Me Do” in The Handmaid’s Tale: The use of a Reputation track in a major TV show mirrored the lead-up to past Taylor’s Version announcements.
  • Tour Teasers: Swift had performed every song from Reputation on her Eras Tour except “I Did Something Bad”—until she finally played it in London in August 2024.
  • Easter Eggs & Cameos: Fans thought Tiffany Haddish presenting an award at the AMAs was a nod to her appearance during the Reputation Stadium Tour.

This Isn’t the First Time Fans Got It Wrong

The 2024 Grammys were another major miss. Swift’s black-and-white profile picture change, coupled with similar changes by close friends like Travis Kelce and Gigi Hadid, sparked buzz that Reputation (TV) was imminent. Instead, Swift shocked everyone by announcing The Tortured Poets Department.

At the 2022 VMAs, she announced Midnights, setting a precedent for award-show surprises—but this time, Swift broke the pattern.

Still, none of these hints led to a reveal.

Is It Time to Dial Back the Speculation?

The Swiftie fandom has spent years decoding clues, analyzing merch drops, and tracking tour setlists. But this latest letdown at the AMAs has some fans wondering if it’s time to take a step back.

Many now feel the theorizing has started to overshadow the music itself. Swift has always thrived on fan interaction and hidden messages, but the endless cycle of guessing has become exhausting—even for longtime fans.

What’s Left in Taylor’s Re-Recording Journey?

As of now, Taylor Swift has re-released:

  • Fearless (Taylor’s Version) – 2021
  • Red (Taylor’s Version) – 2021
  • Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) – 2023
  • 1989 (Taylor’s Version) – 2023

Only two remain:

  • Taylor Swift (debut, 2006)
  • Reputation (2017)

Despite fan theories and missed predictions, the release of Reputation (Taylor’s Version) is inevitable. When it does arrive, it will likely come on Swift’s terms—not ours.
