Emergencies can happen in the blink of an eye.

Whether it’s a wildfire, flood, hurricane, or another unexpected disaster, having a plan in place can mean the difference between chaos and calm.

While no one wants to think about leaving their home under dire circumstances, preparing ahead of time is the best way to protect what matters most.

That’s where the 6 P’s of Evacuation come into play.

This checklist is designed to ensure you have everything you need when time is of the essence.

1. People and Pets

Your family and pets come first. Make sure everyone knows the evacuation plan, and have carriers, leashes, or any necessary items ready for your pets.

2. Papers

Gather important documents, such as passports, birth certificates, insurance policies, and medical records. Keep them in a waterproof, portable container for easy access. Don’t forget to include cash. In emergencies, ATMs and card systems may not be available, so having some money on hand is crucial.

3. Prescriptions

Don’t leave without essential medications. This includes prescriptions, glasses, hearing aids, and any medical devices you or your family members rely on daily.

4. Pictures

Irreplaceable memories matter, too. Take physical photos, digital backups, or external drives with important family pictures.

5. Personal Computers

Laptops, hard drives, or backup drives that contain valuable information should be part of your grab-and-go items.

6. Priceless Items

Think heirlooms, jewelry, or anything with significant sentimental value. If time allows, pack these items carefully.
