Living paycheck to paycheck… if you’re not there now, chances are you know what it’s like.  Now imagine being in that place and not having a paycheck.  That could stress you out or even throw you into full blown panic mode.

I had been thinking about government workers affected by the shutdown and was trying to think of a way to help them.  I got in touch with the folks from Harry & Izzy’s and they generously offered to partner with me to provide lunch to 150 TSA agents at Indianapolis International.  The tasty eats will of course not pay the rent, but my hope is that the officers were left feeling appreciated and encouraged.

As to how you can help — it’s simple… be kind.  The agents told me their morale is still pretty high because in the midst of the shutdown, people are going out of their way to say “thank you for the work that you do… for keeping me and my family safe.”  Dozens of people each day are telling them this right now!  Imagine if you went home every day with dozens of people having expresed gratitutde for the work that you do.  Would be pretty powerful!

The challenge for you is this — be kind.  Vocalize appreciation for TSA workers now and even after the shutdown… and consider other people you encounter each day who might benefit from a little appreciation too.
