If we are honest, by nature, we are selfish. But we are taught from a young age, not to be selfish – to think of others and not always prioritize your own needs. And while that is true, there are times when it’s not only okay to be selfish, you need to be selfish.

In fact, I wouldn’t even label it being selfish – it’s really vital to our own well-being. There’s a big difference between being selfish and self-care.

Self-care is the cure for stress. And if you don’t care of yourself, you won’t be able to help or take care of anyone else. It’s kind of like on a plane during the safety drill, they tell you to put on your oxygen mask first, before helping someone else.

But there is a deeper part to this – when you always putting other people’s needs before your own, you are sending a message that other people are more important than you. Often attracting people who will take advantage of that. But if invest in yourself because you are worthy, you will attract people to you who see you as worthy.

So go ahead and be a little selfish.
