“I’m Bored” … no parent ever likes to hear those words.  Of course, being bored just isn’t a kid thing.  I read today that the average adult experiences 131 days of boredom a year.  Think about that – more than a third of our year we considering boring!?

Now juxtapose that with how many forms of entertainment we have – movies and TV shows on demand, social media in the palm of our hand … countless ways to connect with other people. And if you ask most people how they are doing,  they usually tell you how busy they are.

Weird, huh? We have more forms of entertainment and distractions … we are always busy … yet, we are bored too? Doesn’t make sense does it?

Is it possible that we just fill our lives with lots of things that don’t matter.

I spoke with someone the other day that said, “I need to find more meaningful ways of spending my time.”  And that word “meaningful” just jumped out a me.

They proceeded to talk about a desire to not just kill time, but doing things like volunteering and helping others out.  Or spending time making memories with friends. Meaningful ways of spending their time.

So maybe our cure for our boredom – for both you and your kids – isn’t finding more to do – it’s finding something more meaningful to do.
