Our countdown to Thanksgiving continues with our “21 Days of Gratitude.” Taking time each day to acknowledge a person or an area of life we are thankful for …
Like most kids, I wasn’t a big fan of school, since it got in the way of playing and having fun. In kindergarten I went down to the school office and said I wanted to go home. When they asked me why, I said I wanted to watch TV. But as I got older, I learned to appreciate school and the opportunity to learn. In fact, my parents encouraged me to get a backup career to radio, so I had a second major of “Secondary Education” and worked as a substitute teacher for a few months.
Teachers do so much and our so valuable to our lives. I’m sure you have a favorite teacher, right? Someone who maybe taught you more than just the subject of the class. Someone who poured into you in multiple ways and maybe encouraged you in a way. Teachers help and shape our lives, beyond reading, writing and arithmetic. And beyond teachers, be thankful for the opportunity to learn and go to school. In other eras or in other countries, it is not a given.
Today, let’s be grateful for the teachers and schools that have taught us so much!
